Adam Say What??

Jun 10, 2009 in ,

Ok, so it's no surprise that Adam has admitted that he's gay. I'd be surprise if he wasn't! Look at what he said:

After months of speculation about American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert's sexuality, the rocker tells Rolling Stone he is gay and even had a crush on winner Kris Allen.

"I don't think it should be a surprise for anyone to hear that I'm gay," Lambert told the magazine. "I'm proud of my sexuality. I embrace it. It's just another part of me."

Though Lambert initially wanted to clear the air as soon as Idolended, he said he waited for a major magazine article to spill the beans. "I didn't want the Clay Aiken thing and the celebrity-magazine bull----," Lambert said. "I need to be able to explain myself in context."

Lambert was the early front-runner to take the Idol crown, and his popularity quickly led to photos of him kissing other men and dressing in drag over the Internet. Lambert said all the photos were legit.

"I've only dressed in drag three or four times — and of course I took pictures, because I looked amazing — but I don't tuck and I don't wear breasts, that's not me," Lambert said. "Sucking my boy's face? Yes, that I will own."

Lambert even notes that he had a crush on his Idol roommate and eventual champion Allen. "I was like, 'Oh, s--t, they put me with the cute guy.' Distracting!" Lambert said. "He's the one guy that I found attractive in the whole group on the show: nice, nonchalant, pretty and totally my type — except that he has a wife. I mean, he's open-minded and liberal, but he's definitely 100 percent straight."

On stage, however, Lambert had no problem with the ladies cheering him on. "I loved it this season when girls went crazy for me," he said. "As far as I'm concerned, it's all hot."

Lambert's announcement earned praise from the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD). "As more and more Americans get to know gay and lesbian people, it has a tremendous impact in terms of creating awareness, understanding and acceptance of our community," GLAAD President Neil. G. Giuliano said in a statement. "American Idol has become iconic in our culture, and as Adam continues to share his story during his post-Idol career, we hope his decision to live openly and honestly inspires gay people and opens the hearts and minds of his fans and others he will continue to entertain."

Lambert said he is a proponent for gay marriage, but he wasn't interested in using his new platform for anything other than rocking the mic. "I'm trying to be a singer, not a civil rights leader," he said.
